Two cities, two parking systems, two alcohol rules — one gulf. AL-59 dumps you at Gulf Place. The pier is not a swim. The pass channel is not a swim. Pets are off every gulf sand stretch.
This is Alabama’s developed gulf: a city hub at the Hwy 59 dead-end, a state park in the middle, and Orange Beach’s condo strip running east to Perdido Pass. The sand is continuous. The ordinances are not.
There is no general beach admission. You pay to park — and, at the pier, to walk or fish the pier. Condo walkovers are not public stretches. Fort Morgan is a peninsula-tip historic outing, not a beach day. Destin and 30A are a different coast.
Match the lot to the day. Gulf Place is the flagship. West Beach ends are for people already staying west of Hwy 59. The Pavilion is the all-day park beach. The pier is not a swim. Alabama Point East’s gulf face is the swim sand next to the pass — the channel and the under-bridge pocket are not a swim hole.

Hub · day one
Hwy 59 (Gulf Shores Parkway) dead-ends at Beach Blvd / AL-182 Directions. Use the AL-59 / AL-182 junction. East Gulf Place is resident parking, not a second beach. Year-round no alcohol, no fishing, no dogs on sand. Four official access mats (they stop short of the water). Designated tent area — the only Gulf Shores public beach that has one.
Stay-nearby street-ends
West 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th, 12th, and 13th at West Beach Boulevard — the corridor west of Hwy 59, not a city-named single park. West 6th Directions is the city-named guarded swim node if you want guards without the Gulf Place strip. Do not treat this corridor as a drinking beach.
Dual water · family
Three miles west of Highway 59 on West Beach Boulevard Directions. Parking, restrooms, and outdoor showers on the north side; public beach across the road. Named protected swimming area. Overnight after 2:00 a.m. is specifically prohibited here. Youth curfew applies.
Best full-day park beach
22250 East Beach Blvd, Gulf Shores Directions. Climate-controlled bathrooms with showers, accessible ramps, picnic tables. Public hours 7:00 a.m. to sunset. Seasonal concession Beachin’ Eats Memorial Day–Labor Day 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. No pets, no BYO alcohol, no smoking on property. Park HQ (passes, not the sand): 20115 State Park Road, 251-948-7275.
Fish and sightsee · not a swim
20800 East Beach Blvd Directions. Pier house 251-967-3474. Open 24 hours; honor box when staff are off-site. $15 parking includes one daily fishing permit or three sightseeing admissions for the person who shows payment. Everyone else pays — adult fish $10, adult sightsee $3 (fees move; confirm before you go). Children under 14 must be accompanied. This is not a swim stretch.

Pass-end · gulf face only
Alabama Point East, 28100 Perdido Beach Blvd Directions; Shell Beach, 28282 Perdido Beach Blvd Directions. Perdido Pass is the inlet, jetties, and bridge — a water and boat feature, not a third swim beach. Swim the gulf-facing sand at Alabama Point East (Tower 2). The pass mouth and the under-bridge pocket are the hazard: boat traffic and swift tidal currents, with a recurring spring-break partial closure of the boardwalk-to-bridge section. Majority of Alabama Point East and parking stay open. Shell is portable restroom only (park).
Refuge · daylight
Beach access is Mobile Street south of AL-180 — no official street number. Do not use the refuge office number (12295 State Highway 180) as the sand address Directions. Sunrise–sunset, 7 days. No entry fee. Rebuilt ADA-minded boardwalk (2025). No restrooms, showers, concessions, or lifeguards. Pets prohibited, including in vehicles. Not a secret empty beach.
Not a public swim stretch: Fort Morgan State Historic Site (51 Hwy 180 West) is a paid historic / birding / peninsula-tip outing — not a named public swimming beach. Condo and resort sand (Phoenix West II, The Oasis, and any private walkover) is private, not a public lot. The city lot at 25700 Perdido Beach Blvd (CoastAL) is residents only. Destin, 30A, and Dauphin Island are a different coast.
There is no general beach admission. City lots and Gulf State Park lots are not interchangeable. The Foley Beach Express / SR-161 / SR-308 toll is gone — the state ended the $5 one-way toll at noon May 23, 2024, and as of May 13, 2026 the crossing is a toll-free one-way pair. Do not budget a Beach Express toll.

How you get there: AL-59 south dead-ends at AL-182 at Gulf Place. AL-182 is the beachfront east–west (West/East Beach Blvd in Gulf Shores, then Perdido Beach Blvd through Orange Beach to Perdido Pass). Fort Morgan Road is SR-180 — peninsula road, not a substitute for AL-182 beachfront parking. Peak AL-59 backup is historically real.

On the sand: Beachin’ Eats at the GSP Pavilion, Memorial Day–Labor Day 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. ByWater Beachside Beach Bar & Grill is on the pier page. The Hangout sits adjacent to Gulf Place — a business next to the hub, not a city amenity. Confirm hours at the door. The Hangout has daily live music, not a named dated festival in this window.
Pick the stretch you will actually walk to. West Beach houses and condos are the street-end play — you are paying city hourly only if you drive to a designated pad. The Orange Beach condo strip sits on Romar and Cotton Bayou. Gulf Place is the day-trip and hotel-district hub, not a quiet night.
The Lodge at Gulf State Park, 21196 East Beach Blvd, has two private boardwalks. That is a hotel product — lodge parking is not a GSP public-lot pass, and it is not city Gulf Place parking. Inland park (Lake Shelby / trails) is a different place from the gulf lots.
Pair a beach lot with one indoor or evening stop — especially while the heat advisory holds.

51 Hwy 180 West Directions, 22 miles west of Hwy 59. Fort, museum, grounds, birding. Hours: fort/grounds 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; museum 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Adult $8 on the AHC table. Come for the peninsula tip, not a beach day.
Free refuge gulf, sunrise–sunset. Boardwalk, benches, kiosk. No facilities, no guards. Pets banned including in cars.
Nature Center, 22120 Campground Road — $2/vehicle day-use into the campground. In this window: pier walks, sea turtles (Tue Aug 18), birds of prey, Junior Rangers, snakes. Register on the park programs page. Small interpretive programs, not festivals.
Ordinances
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach share a gulf and do not share a parking product, an alcohol rule, or a tent-size rule. Gulf Place is a year-round no-alcohol beachfront. Orange Beach sand allows alcohol and bans glass. GSP beach areas ban alcohol on the lot and the sand — including the four Orange Beach public lots you will actually use.
Animals
Not stretch-specific. Gulf Shores sand, Orange Beach Gulf beaches, GSP beaches, and Bon Secour (including vehicles) all ban pets. Lake Shelby Dog Pond and the city dog parks are the official alternatives.
Hazard
Alabama Point East, 28100 Perdido Beach Blvd, is the gulf-facing GSP access just east of the bridge, with an Orange Beach tower. The channel, jetties, and under-bridge pocket are navigation water — boat traffic and swift tidal currents, with a recurring spring-break rope-off of that small section.
Access
City of Gulf Shores is ParkMobile hourly since July 1, 2026: $2 north of Beach Blvd, $3 south, $4 overnight 11 p.m.–6 a.m., season Mar 1–Nov 30. GSP lots are $15 personal, valid at every park beach access that day. Visitors to “Orange Beach public beach” are in a state lot. Foley Beach Express is no longer a toll.
